Remote Control Unit
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE REMEDY
No operation Batteries are not loaded or exhausted. Replace the batteries
Batteries may be inserted incorrectly.

Make sure the Polarities; Positive and Negative terminals are correct.

Batteries may have corroded. Check for corrosion on the terminals inside the remote control, remove corrosion if any.
The remote sensor is obstructed. Remove the obstacle.
New batteries and the remote control is still not working correctly Could be a defective remote control. You will need to repair or replace the remote control. Please ship it along with a copy of the receipt to Sherwood America, 13101 Moore St., Cerritos, CA 90703.
 
Amplifier Section
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE REMEDY
No power The AC input cord is disconnected. Connect the cord securely.
Poor connection at AC wall outlet or the outlet is inactive.

Check the outlet using a lamp or other appliance.

No sound The speaker cords are disconnected. Check the speaker connections.
The master volume is adjusted too low. Adjust the master volume.
The MUTE button on the remote control is pressed on. Press the MUTE button.
Incorrect selection of the input source. Select the correct input source.
Incorrect connections between the components. Make connections securely.
The “Tape Monitor” button is engaged. Tape M should not be displayed unless you are playing a cassette. Press the TAPE MONITOR button on the front of your receiver.
The “Speaker” button is turned off. Press the SPEAKER button on the front panel of the receiver.
No Sound with Flashing or Blinking (O1, C1, C2 or Optical) lights on front panel. If you see something Blinking or Flashing on the front panel of your receiver this means that you have the incorrect settings and therefore will not get sound. You will need to press the “Digital Input” button on the front panel of the receiver until the sound comes back in or until the flashing stops. If the sound does not engage and the light continues to flash? You will need to enter the setup mode of the device connected so that it outputs the correct signal. You should follow the instructions for the device connected.
No sound from the surround speakers Surround mode is switched off (stereo mode). Select a surround mode.
Master volume on the surround levels are too low. Adjust master and surround level.
A monaural source is used. Select a stereo or surround source
No sound from the center speaker The Center channel level may be adjusted too low or turned off. Check the Channel selector and adjust the level if needed.
Distorted sound Poor connections. Check the connections and connect all cords securely.
Source material may be recorded incorrectly. Try different material.
Receiver shuts off. The speaker wires are shorted out (touching each other) or there is a defective speaker connected to the receiver. Disconnect all the speakers and turn the receiver On again. If it continues to shut down there is a possible defect to this receiver. If it turns on and stays On, connect one speaker at a time until the receiver shuts down again. Once you find the speaker that is causing the unit to shut down investigate the wiring connection and speakers to determine what’s at fault.
Hum Noise Video connection could be plugged into an Audio Input on the receiver. Be sure that you do not connect any of the Yellow (video) RCA jacks into an Audio Input.
Power source used may be dirty. Try a different wall outlet and keep the RCA connections at least 18 inches away from the power lines.
 
Tuner
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE REMEDY
Stations cannot be received No antenna is connected. Connect an antenna.
The desired station frequency is not tuned in.

Tune in the desired station.

The antenna is in wrong position. Move the antenna and retry.
Preset stations cannot be received An incorrect station frequency has been memorized. Please select the correct station frequency and memorize them.
The memorized stations have been cleared. Memorize the stations again.
Poor FM reception No antenna is connected. Connect an antenna.
The antenna is not positioned for the best reception. Change the position of the antenna.
Poor FM reception No antenna is connected. Connect an antenna.
The antenna is not positioned for the best reception. Change the position of the antenna.
Continuous hissing noise during FM reception, especially when a stereo Weak signals
or noise caused by motors, fluorescent lamps or lighting, etc.
Change the position of the antenna.
Install an indoor/outdoor antenna.
Install a power antenna.
 
DVD Player
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE REMEDY
No playback The disc is loaded upside down. Reload the disc with the printed side up.
The disc is dirty.

Clean the disc.

The rating level is not set correctly.

Please follow the owners manual for proper procedure to set rating levels.

The disc is not playable.

Insert a playable disc.

Scrambled Picture or Black & White picture NTSC/PAL button is not selected correctly. Make sure the proper color system is set to the proper mode. On the remote control press the NTSC/PAL button until the correct picture comes back.
No sound The analog output and SPDIF settings are incorrect. Enter the “Setup” mode and select the correct audio output. The setup button can be found on the remote control. Aim it at the DVD player and press it. Look for “Audio Output” or “Audio Setup and select your connection type.
No picture / Video The video cords are disconnected Change the position of the antenna.
The wrong video input is selected on your television. On the television remote control, press the “Input” or “Video” button and select the correct input.
The wrong input is selected on the receiver. Select the DVD or the correct input on the receiver.
Malfunction The disc is scratched or not a usable format. Press the Power button to Off, then press the Power button again and then unload the disc

Optical Input

No Sound when the Optical Input button is pressed.

In the DVD players Setup mode ANALOG must be selected as the playback source for Audio output. Do not select SPDIF/RAW or SPDIF/PCM. The steps to enter this are: Press the “Setup” button. This will take you to the Main Menu. In the Main Menu select AUDIO Setup then OPTICAL IN or COAXIAL IN and press enter. Now return to the Main Menu and select General Setup. In the General Setup menu select Audio Out and select ANALOG.
 
Surround Sound Speakers
PROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSE REMEDY
Distorted sound The receiver being turned up too loud. Turn the volume down on the receiver until the distorted sound goes away.
The source material being played is recorded poorly.

Try playing some different software.

Crackle sound The receiver’s volume is turned up too loud, and or the source material being played has been recorded poorly. Try playing some different software or turn down the volume.
  The speakers could be blown out. Unplug the other speakers so that the only speaker connected is the one that makes the crackle sound. Put the receiver in Stereo mode and slowly increase the master volume until the sound is heard. If the crackle is heard at LOW volume levels it may be a defective speaker.  If it only occurs when the volume is at MAX volume you could be overdriving the speaker. In this case you would need to change the speaker or turn down the volume down.
Hiss or Static noise Poor recording or software being played. Try different software.
The speaker cables and or Input RCA cables could be run over power lines. Run the power cables as far away as possible from the speaker wiring and RCA input cables.
